The Consolidated laws of Fiji will be launched on Friday, bringing Fiji into the modern era.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says it involves the revision and consolidation of 30 years of laws for ordinary Fijians to know and understand.

Addressing lawyers and judges over the weekend, Sayed-Khaiyum also highlighted the need for seasoned legal practitioners to conduct themselves with decorum.

“Some of the senior practitioners have a particular condescending attitude towards the younger practitioners – in particular if those practitioners are women.”

“We do get a lot of that, nearly ninety percent of practitioners in the Solicitor General’s office are women so you can actually see how lawyers do get treated in they are women.”

The Consolidated Laws will be launched at the Attorney General’s Conference.
