Communication ongoing over PAC

November 26, 2014 4:16 am

Communication is on-going between the Speaker of the House and Opposition MP professor Biman Prasad in relation to the Public Accounts Committee meeting.

Professor Prasad confirms receiving a letter from Dr Jiko Luveni yesterday afternoon and has responded accordingly.

The Public Accounts Committee is yet to have its meeting to scrutinize the Auditor General’s report.

The meeting scheduled for earlier this month was postponed after an impasse between the members, whereby the government side does not support Prasad to chair the committee claiming he has publicly scrutinized the auditor general’s reports without convening the first meeting.

Section 117 subsection 1 of the standing order provides “at the first meeting of each standing committee the members must elect a chairperson and a deputy chair person amongst themselves.”

Subsection 2 provides that standing committee on public accounts may only select an opposition member as a chairperson.
