The colour coding number plates for taxis will help improve and modernize services within Fiji’s taxi industry.

Speaking in Parliament, Minister for Transport Parveen Bala says these plates will enable enforcement officers to easily identify and monitor taxis operating within a zone.

Bala says this will be beneficial for both the industry and its customers.

‘We had some legal taxis, we have got a lot of cases, we have got some taxi operators who are operating in other areas, and well away from the bases they were given. It has deprived their customers an accessible and reliable taxi services.”

Bala says with the new plates, taxi services will be better managed and meet the demand present in each of the 34 zones.

Opposition MP Aseri Radrodro questioned on Bala on how different is this new initiative would be with stickers already on taxi’s that identify the zones they belong to.

Bala responded that colour coding is regional meaning it’s divided among three divisions with the current system representing the towns and cities.

LTA earlier announced that the Northern division will have a shade of orange for their number plates, Sky Blue for the Western division and the Central division will get lime green plates.
