Census count ready to wrap up on Sunday

October 5, 2017 5:40 pm

The census 2017 is on track to wrap up the enumeration period this Sunday.
Senior Statistician from the Bureau of Statistics – Emali Soderberg says work has progressed well despite a few set-backs from imposters to technical glitches and numerous call backs.

“Well the numbers that we are getting has exceeded our expectations given that, well you know that supposedly a lot of people weren’t aware, but a lot of people have been very helpful so we are anticipating that we will you know, finish off everything by the 8th of October. And you know next week will probably be the only time we will be checking, verifying information in case we need to revisit in the field to just attend to queries on the kind of information that came in.”

Meanwhile Soderberg is urging the public to call the Census Helpline 5-1-5-1 if they have yet to be counted with three more days left in the enumeration period.

The omission of some households in the count has been attributed to residents not being home at the time enumerators are visiting as well as enumerators still covering their designated areas.

The statistician says everyone matters and needs to be counted.

The census count is expected to end on the 8th of October with the next one scheduled for 2027.
