Catholics in the country made their way to their nearest parish today to mark Ash Wednesday.

Church Member Christiana Lui says Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and the first day of Lent.

“This is the starting of Lent season and it means when Jesus went to the dessert he fasted for forty days and forty nights. So it’s a time for us Catholics, we start our fasting and praying and helping others and we must have some charity work because we must be like Jesus.”

Meanwhile, Hindus are also celebrating Maha Shivrati which is a Hindu festival celebrated annually in honor of god Shiva.

During the festival, the Hindu community fast and abstain from eating meat for a day.
