Cabinet to be sworn-in

Government Minister’s will be sworn in today at the State House in Suva.

It’s expected that some returning MPs will retain their ministerial portfolios from the previous term in line with the FijiFirst’s focus on the continuation of development across the country.

Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is expected to pick up his previous portfolios of the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Justice, the Civil Service and Public Enterprises.

Likely to retain his portfolio as the Minister Infrastructure, Transport and Environment is Parveen Bala.

Mereseini Vuniwaqa is expected to be handed back the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation portfolio.

In terms of new appointments, Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete is widely speculated to be given the Ministry of Health with the previous Minister Rosy Akbar expected to take up another ministerial position.

Former CEO of the Consumer Council and debut MP Premila Kumar is expected to pick up a portfolio as well.

Jone Usamate is highly like to return as the Employment, Industrial Relations and Productivity Minister.

Fisheries and Forests Ministries are expected to go back to their respective Ministers in Semi Koroilavesau and Osea Naiqamu.

Dr. Mahendra Reddy is also expected to continue as the head of the Waterways.

There may also be a change in some of the ministry compositions to be announced later today.

The swearing in ceremony in which the Minister’s will take their oath before the President, Major General Retired Jioji Konrote will be live on FBC TV from 11am.
