Business operators to assist inmates

For the first time ever, business operators will be included under the Yellow Ribbon Program aimed at assisting inmates once they’re released back into the community.

The Fiji Correction Services says there are initiatives for these businesses to help inmates earn a living for themselves.

Director for Rehabilitation Senior Superintendent, Salote Panapasa says some offenders have not been accepted by their families due to unemployment.

” We understand that some company and individual are reluctant to accept them when offer them a job as they have negative picture so sometimes we have perceptions amongst employers that people with criminal convictions won’t be highly skilled .In the will to survive and be accepted ,they fall again into their wills and ways.”

Ninety stakeholders will be part of the Yellow Ribbon Employment Symposium which will be held at the ANZ Stadium Corporate Box in Suva.
