Opposition MP Mitieli Bulanauca was made to retract claims that Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama was behind the 2000 Coup.

Bulanauca while giving his response to the President’s speech in Parliament said this was clearly portrayed through the number of military vehicles used during the coup.

Prime Minister Bainimarama then raised a Point of Order.

“I heard Honorable Mitieli say that I supported the coup in 2000, I want a clarification on that, and if he can’t then I want him to withdraw that statement.”

Bulanauca claimed Bainimarama who was the military commander at the time, knew what was happening.

“What to withdraw? He was the as a commander, he knows what’s going on as a commander.”

This was strongly opposed by the Prime Minister.

“I did not support the coup, that’s what I said.”

Bulanauca was told by Speaker Ratu Epeli Nailatikau to withdraw his statement.
