Budget countdown

Major announcements are expected today when the financial year for 2016 to 2017 ends and the 2017-2018 financial year begins.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport received the biggest allocation of $879.5m last year with a huge chunk of that amount directed to the Fiji Roads Authority with $527.2m

Some of the areas we can look forward to is the Education Ministry, the Civil Service Ministry, Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty alleviation and others.

However these are just some of the main ones that we can look forward to that may receive an increased budget from the last financial year.

We can also expect increases on cigarettes, alcohol and sugar sweetened and carbonated drinks.

There may also be changes in fiscal duties and excise rates.

Other key initiatives may also be announced.

The budget announcement will only be for an hour from 7:30pm-8:30pm however our coverage on FBC TV will begin from 6:30pm this evening.
