Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will present the 2016 National Budget in parliament this morning.
This is the second government budget after elections.
In 2015, the government budgeted revenue of $3.1 billion and expenditures of $3.3 billion – a deficit of $213.9 million.
Capital expenses this year were budgeted at $1.3 billion while operating expenses stood at $1.9 billion.
2015 has been a successful year for Fiji with the International Monetary Fund estimating economic growth of 4.3% so far this year.
Government focus has remained on the critical areas such as Education $556 million, Health $269.7 million and Infrastructure.
The Fiji Roads Authority in 2015 received $653 million while the Water Authority of Fiji was allocated $239.2 million.
The theme for this year’s budget was ‘Turning promises into deeds.’
The budget address is scheduled to begin at 10am and FBC TV will carry live coverage from 9.30am.
