Ban on DECT phones in Fiji

Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication phones are not the only devices that are interfering with the mobile phone network.

Telecommunications Authority of Fiji’s Acting Manager Technical Tevita Navila says wireless printers and wireless cameras have also being found to interfere with the network.

He says these devices interfere with licensed frequencies which is illegal.

Under the law, TAF has the right to confiscate and impose fines & penalties to persons or businesses who possess such devices either for sale or use.

“Public must now at this stage that it is an offense now for anyone to import or use DECT phones after this public notice or after the 30 days that we have extended to the public for the surrender or analyze of the usage of these particular phones.”

Navila says any person or party using such devices should immediately stop using them and surrender them to TAF.
