A thirty-four-year-old man who allegedly murdered his wife in Somosomo, Taveuni on Sunday appeared at the Labasa Magistrates Court today.
Charged with one count of murder, Josese Bale applied for bail before Magistrate Cama Tuberi.
The application was objected by prosecution due to the seriousness of the offence.
The Court was also informed that there is high tension in the village where the alleged murder happened and granting bail will worsen the situation.
Prosecution also requested for the case to be transferred to the High Court as it is an indictable offence.
Taking all these into consideration, Magistrate Tuberi denied the bail on the basis of the accused’s own safety.
The case has been transferred to the High Court and will be recalled of the 27th of this month.
