A one-month-old baby and his mother are admitted at the Intensive Care Unit in Lautoka hospital after they were allegedly assaulted over the weekend.

Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says the suspect is the father of the child.

It is alleged that the 24-year-old man came home drunk and started an argument and assaulted his 22-year old wife.

Naisoro says in the process the suspect allegedly injured their one month old baby.

The alleged offense took place in Tavua.

Naisoro says while the investigation continues in this matter, the Police are urging members of the public to be mindful of the consequences the excessive consumption of alcohol, can have on the safety of their loved ones.
