Australian remanded over drug bust

The alleged owner of the yacht where cocaine and ammunition was found during a joint drug raid last Friday in Denarau appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court today.

Yvette Nikolic has been charged with one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs, one count of possession of illicit drugs and one count of failure to declare firearms and ammunition.

Magistrate Siromi Turaga has also transferred the matter to the Lautoka High Court due to the weight of the illicit drugs.

Nikolic has also been remanded.

Her counsel Ronald Gordon has asked that her plea be deferred as he has just received some documents from the Police Prosecution.

Gordon also made an application for Yvette to visit her husband the other accused who is admitted at the ICU in Lautoka.

However, Magistrates Turaga stated that the application can be made in the High Court.

The charges were also read to Yvette Nikolic who informed the court that she understood them.

The case will now be called on the 4th of next month at the Lautoka High Court.

In a join operation between the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, Police, Biosecurity Authority of Fiji and Health Department, 13 bars of Cocaine weighing 15 Kilograms and Ecstasy tablets with an estimated value of $10 to 15 million US dollars was seized on Friday afternoon at Denarau Port.

It is also confirmed that US$15,000.00 undeclared currency, guns and ammunition was found from the yacht.
