Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Kiribati Limited (ATHKL) has launched phase one of the 3G and 4G wireless communications and broadband services in Kiribati.

ATH commenced operations in Kiribati in June this year and yesterday began the process of improving telecommunications and ICT services on the island.

ATHKL chairman Arun Narsey says their focus is to bring about improvements in telecommunication services to the government, businesses and consumers.

Narsey says these improvements will pave the way for opportunities for sustainable development in Kiribati and most importantly it bridges the rural-urban and outer island gap.

ATHKL is also currently working on commissioning a high-speed low latency Internet connection before the end of the year.

The next phase will be completed in early 2016 and will see the expansion of 10 new wireless cell sites in Kiribati and outer islands.
