An Asian national who was caught smoking inside the Fiji Airways aircraft while travelling to Fiji from China has been remanded in custody.

Xichuan Liu is charged with one count of smoking inside an aircraft.

It is alleged Liu who was travelling on flight FJ392 on Monday smoked inside the aircraft violating the smoking is prohibited notice.

He will reappear at the Nadi Magistrates Court on the 22nd of this month, to file a formal bail application.

Liu is in Fiji to work for a construction company.
