Ashram residents moved to higher grounds

31 residents of the Labasa Ashram have been evacuated to higher ground early this afternoon.

The Ashram is located beside the Labasa River and is prone to flooding when the water level rises.

The elderly men and women were transported to the Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons Building at Naiyaca Subdivision by Police and Corrections Officers.

Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea is urging all other resident that might feel threaten due to the location of their homes to start moving to evacuation centers or to higher grounds.
