Discussions around the appointment of a Privacy Commissioner will soon take place says Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Sayed-Khaiyum revealed this during the 21st Attorney General’s Conference yesterday in Sigatoka and says the Privacy Commissioner will work closely with the Online Safety Commissioner.

“We have some thought process around this and of course it needs to be elucidated further, discussed further and have more consultations whether we can actually have an Online Safety Commissioner together with a Privacy Commissioner.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says it would be ideal to appoint a Privacy Commissioner due to the fact that some people’s privacy are still being invaded.

“We have numerous instances just a few days ago people have been texting me saying that my boyfriend has put up images of me which we took at that time but I did not consented to it going up now and we just broke up three months ago.”

The AG adds that a lot more can be done by the Online Safety Commission.
