Agriculture Ministry on track for recovery

July 5, 2016 1:01 am

Agriculture Minister Inia Seruiratu says his Ministry has contributed $2.4 million towards recovery efforts following the damage caused by TC Winston on farms and crops.

Speaking in Parliament this morning, Seruiratu, says the recovery efforts include the mobilisation of staff, the distribution of planting materials, livestock, and light machinery.

_“This has translated into the restoration of food for our people as well as organised markets for certain products that are now reflected in falling prices from the heights they had reached immediately in early March. This has been possible through the Ministry’s strategy to appropriate production from non-affected areas to substitute for losses anticipated from affected localities.” _

Seruiratu also says his ministry has already made a bid for $15 million from the $23 million that the European Union plans to give to the Agriculture Sector.
