Agriculture sector has the potential to be the backbone of the economy once again.

Agriculture Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy while speaking during the launch of the Ministry’s 5-year Strategic Development Plan and its annual Costed Operation Plan says growing the agriculture sector will allow the government to meet national aspirations and assist in delivering public goods.

Dr. Reddy says the SDP and COP aim to deliver a demand-driven and resilient agriculture sector that delivers economic opportunities, environmental sustainability, food and nutrition and security for all Fijians.

He adds the plan focuses on increasing farmer’s household income for sustainable livelihoods, improving the adoption of sustainable resources management and climate-smart agriculture.

It also focuses on the establishment and improvement of commercial agriculture and the improvement of the public quality sector performance and service delivery.
