Accessing Climate Change funds is a bureaucratic nightmare.
Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum made this statement while speaking at the Pacific Update Conference in Suva today.
Sayed-Khaiyum says concerns have been raised on government officials not having enough knowledge on how to access climate change funds.
“You can access some of these funds through grants, you can access some the funds through soft loans but there’s number of permutations to which we can put together proposals but there’s very little knowledge about it.”
Fiji being the face of climate change, Sayed-Khaiyum says it is vital for government officials to know procedures that are in place.
From next month government will start off informal sessions that enable government officials from all pacific island countries to know more about climate change funds.
