Abraham stands by his response

September 5, 2018 5:05 am

The chief executive of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission, Joel Abraham says he stands by his response to a concerned member of the public that it will take a magical formula to immediately reduce the cost of all food products in Fiji by 20 percent.

This follows a call made by the National Federation Party leader, Professor Biman Prasad, for Abraham to resign from his position for politically biased.

This follows Abraham’s statements made to FBC News that questions were asked on some political parties making false promises about making drastic reduction in food prices if they are elected to run the country after the 2018 General Election.

Abraham in a recorded interview had said he would like to have a magic formula for such a promise, which has not gone down well with NFP.

Abraham says his comment spoke to the lack of economic understanding behind the question as it would be impossible to implement such a radical and unrealistic policy without grinding the Fijian economy to a halt and forcing many Fijian businesses to close their doors.

Abraham says he never once mentioned any political party and is surprised with the statement from NFP.
