70% Fijians have access to water proper supply

Minister for Waterways, Dr Mahendra Reddy says currently, 78% of the population or at least 135,498 households have access to proper water supply.

Speaking during the opening of the Water Sanitation and Hygiene Summit in Nadi, Dr Reddy said Fiji has come a long way and is now holistically addressing the water issues.

“In 2017/18, a total of 4,905 water tanks have been installed in drought stricken communities and individual households. This is an increase from the 1,801 water tanks installed in 2016/17.”

Dr Reddy also says 25% of the population has access to central sewerage systems.

During this Summit participants will be deliberating on the way forward for Fiji in achieving its commitment on safe drinking water, sanitation, hygiene, and wastewater and improving water quality.
