A total of sixty-five cases of prostate cancer were recorded by the Fiji Cancer Society last year.

This is a decrease of 22 cases compared to 87 cases which were recorded in 2015.

Fiji Cancer Society representative, Kali Turagaiviu says the prostate cancer awareness month is a good time to stand up and support those who suffer from the killer disease.

“This terrible disease is a very disruptive disease we can say, it not only affects the person who has been diagnosed with cancer but the whole family and that is what we see with all of our cases. The majority of cases that are presented at the hospitals around the country are usually presented at the terminal stage when it’s too late to do anything. The only thing that can save them is a prayer and a miracle!”

The Fiji Cancer Society continues to raise awareness on prostate cancer urging men to go for early screenings.

Close to five hundred cases of prostate cancer were recorded from 2011 to 2016.
