4.8 magnitude earthquake poses no threat

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake with an immediate depth of 50.7km occurred 11km North East from Yadua Island in Bua at around 1pm today.

Mineral resources department seismology unit confirmed to FBC news that the light earthquake was felt in parts of Labasa, Savusavu, the Western division and Suva.

However, it does not pose any immediate threat and no Tsunami alert has been issued.

FBC News spoke to people in Ba and Savusavu, who say there were no damages but they felt the shake for around five seconds.
