3 soldiers and a businessman charged for bribery

Three Military officers and a businessman appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today charged with bribery offences amounting to more than $15, 900.

The accused are Corporal Waisale Sorokacika, Staff Sergeant Elazar Luciano, Sergeant Josese Vusoniceva and Ajesh Sharma who is the Manager Sales of Buildex Marketing Limited in Labasa.

Between the 1st of April last year to 31st August this year Sokokacika while working as assistant purchasing clerk being a public servant solicited an advantage of $5,404 from Sharma.

Luciano who also works in the purchasing department in the Military between the 1st to the 31st August, this year solicited an advantage of $600 from Sharma while Vusoniceva solicited $9,906.

Sharma who is charged with three counts of bribery in return offered an advantage to the three soldiers amounting to more than $15,900.

The soldiers were granted a bail of $5,000 with two sureties and to report to the nearest police station every last Saturday of the month and to not re-offend.

Sharma was ordered to surrender his travel documents and report to Koronivia police station.

The case will be recalled on the 13th of January, 2016.
