2700 households to benefit from Upgrading Project

More than 2700 households will benefit from the Townwide Informal Settlement Upgrading Project which will begin in Lautoka and Ba soon.

The informal settlements that will be upgraded include Tukutora, Delaisaweni, Nabare, Tavela and Tore in Lautoka and Valeyaguyaya settlement in Ba.

Minister for Housing, Parveen Kumar today signed a contract with consultancy services in Suva to get the project off the ground.

“All these people who are residing there right now in these informal settlements will have fully serviced lots that is in terms of proper roads, drainage, sewer lines, electricity, piped water, street lights and footpaths.”

Contractors NRW Macallan Fiji Limited and WesEng Consulting Limited say they are ready to give back to the communities.

The Government has paid a premium of over four hundred and sixty eight thousand dollars to respective landowners for this project while $2.3 million dollars has been paid to consultants to carry out the upgrades.
