Since 2015 under the seasonal employment program one thousand three hundred and ninety five workers have been sent to Australia and New Zealand out of which one hundred and thirty one were women.

This was highlighted in the parliament by the Minister for Employment Jone Usamate.

Usamate says the women are working in the hotel and accommodation sector, horticulture sector and packing houses.

He says the Ministry is now marketing and networking with potential employers, strengthening women projects and providing more training and assessment to increase women employability.

“The process that we put people through to select the Fiji product is working. The members that are coming out of the Tikina team they are getting enhance reputation and that system is giving us dividends and we hope as a result of that there will be more demand for workers to come from Fiji including Fiji women.”

Meanwhile Usamate says that people who work hard under the seasonal worker scheme not only make a difference to themselves but also to their community.
