10 out of 40 media houses registered for Election coverage

More media organizations are being urged to register for accreditation to cover the General Elections with the deadline less than three weeks away.

Chairman for the Media Industry Development Authority, Ashwin Raj says so far a handful of local media organizations have registered including several from overseas.

“Out of you know 40 media, 10 have registered so far and as you know the process is that you get registered with MIDA first and then get accreditation from the FEO. And at this point, six international media as well. I implore that all media follow these processes and get registered and accredited ASAP.”

Supervisor of Elections – Mohammed Saneem notes that while one major television company only recently registered, the rest of the local media are accredited and coverage has been commendable.

“But the rest of the media have assured their accreditation is done on time and they have being covering the election very well, we look forward to a successful coverage throughout the election.”

The deadline for media registration and accreditation is the seventh of November.
