Angela Bassett has earned her second career Golden Globes nomination for her performance in the 2022 Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The nominations for the 80th Golden Globe Awards were announced on Dec. 12 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, with Bassett receiving a Best Supporting Actress Performance in a Motion Picture nomination for her reprisal of Ramonda, the Sovereign Queen Mother of Wakanda, in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She will be competing against Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Dolly de Leon (Triangle of Sadness) and Carey Mulligan (She Said) in the category. Bassett previously won the Golden Globes award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her performance in 1993’s What’s Love Got to Do with It.

Wakanda Forever also received a second Golden Globes nomination, Best Original Song in a Motion Picture, for Rihanna’s lead single, “Lift Me Up,” which serves as a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, who played T’Challa/Black Panther in the MCU. “Life Me Up” will be competing for the accolade against “Carolina” (Where the Crawdads Sing), “Ciao Papa” (Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio), “Hold My Hand” (Top Gun: Maverick) and “Naatu Naatu” (RRR). Notably, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the only 2022 superhero film to receive nominations for the upcoming 2023 Golden Globes.
