Superyacht numbers to significantly increase

Fiji’s Superyacht and boating business is expected to hit an all-time high in the next two years.

Managing Director for the Port Denarau Marina Nigel Skeggs says with America’s Cup, there will be an influx of business.

“It’s been growing over the last 10 years from sort of around 20 Superyacht visits to an average of around 55 at the moment. Over the next two years, we expect to see very significant growth due to the America’s Cup in Auckland. At this stage, there’s over, well over a 100 Superyachts due to come through.”

Currently, the niche businesses accounts for around $65 million that’s a direct injection into Fiji’s economy.

Meanwhile, PDM last week became a publically listed company on the South Pacific Stock Exchange which on early offering raked in over $14 million.

Since its listing, around $40 million worth of shares has been floated for ordinary Fijians to invest in.
