North’s first ever Floriculture Show

Thirty-five men and women from Labasa were part of the first ever Floriculture Show in the Northern Division today.

Senior Agriculture Officer, Sujendra Prasad says it is encouraging to see the show has attracted young and old floriculture farmers.

He says the show was organised as a means to empower women and to encourage them to plant flowers as a source of income.

Prasad says this show will help the Ministry of Agriculture gauge if and how they need to improve the floriculture sector in the division.

From that, they will then decide on running a bigger floriculture show for the whole of Vanua Levu.

Most of the floriculture farmers taking part in the show today are backyard farmers and Prasad says it is pleasing to see that many are taking interest in the floriculture business.
