Fiji has a niche market for mushroom production.

Minister for Agriculture, Doctor Mahendra Reddy says there is a growing demand for mushrooms by households, the tourism sector and the export market.

Reddy says they have established five commercial farmers specializing in mushroom production.

“I have just launched one commercial mushroom production equipment in Votualevu Nadi. I must say we are quite pleased with the outcome in terms of production.”

Reddy says over the last three years mushroom production has increased by 39.5 percent.

He adds the total volume at the moment is 20 metric tonnes.
