Malani wins first medals for Fiji

Seruwaia Malani has scooped Fiji’s first medals at the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.

She won three bronze medals in Weighlifting categories of 48kg Snatch, 48kg Clean and Jerk and 48kg totals.

Meanwhile Thelma Mea Toua of Papua New Guinea won Gold in all three events while Marry Barter from Australia took out three Silver medals.

Malani broke into tears during her medal presentation.

In the Triathlon this morning, New Caledonia took out Gold in both the men’s and women’s events.

The Vodafone Fiji under 23 football side defeated Federated State of Micronesia 38-0 in the football competition.

Fiji led 21-0 at the break.

Antonio Tuivuna scored 10 goals; Christopher Wasasala grabbed 8 while Napolioni Qasevakatini scored five goals.

Fiji played to a 1-all draw against Vanuatu in their first match.

The Fiji women’s Basketball defeated New Caledonia 85-40 in their first match of the games.
