Lifters out for top ten finish at Olympics

June 13, 2012 7:00 pm

Weightlifting coach Joe Vueti is looking for a top 10 finish at the London Olympics.

Vueti says while Manueli Tulo and Marika Liku topped their category in Oceania, getting a medal at the Olympics will not be that easy.

“This is the Olympic Games, the top sports people will be there. We have to get realistic, our lifters are not lifting that much now. Just being there is fantastic but we are hoping for a top 10 finish.”

He says the two Olympiads are from a minor sport and they need financial assistance.

“All the financial help we are getting is from the government and FASANOC, Reality is that we need sponsors for a successful outing.”

Tulo and Liku are bound for New Caledonia to train at the weightlifting academy.
