Huge celebration for Yeshnil Karan in Yaladro Tavua

Tavua College student Yeshnil Karan who shocked the nation during the Coca Cola Games after winning two gold medals in the 1,500m and 3,000m has made his family, friends and people of Tavua proud.

Speaking to FBC News, Yeshnil’s mother Saleshni Devi says that they were just proud to see him on TV taking part.

Devi also says that she was confident of Yeshnil winning as he was very dedicated during his training.

The 18 year old had beaten national rep and Pacific Games gold medalist Petero Veitaqomaki in the 1,500m and 3,000m.

Devi says that gravel road and sugarcane farms were the only training ground for his son leading up to the competition.

She says since Friday they have been celebrating in Yaladro Tavua and on Sunday they held a huge celebration.

The 47 year old says that for their family, this will always be a proud moment as Yeshnil is the first in their family to win a medal at the Coca Cola Games.

Meanwhile, Yeshnil also told FBC News that he is ready to represent Fiji and is just waiting for the call.
