Eighty-eight teams to take part in a 7s tournament

Eighty-eight teams are expected to take part in the 4th Christian Mission Fellowship International 7s in Labasa next month.

The tournament will run in three divisions, the men’s, under 19 and the women’s competition.

The men’s division is divided into two tiers.

Tier 1 sees the participation of 24 teams and the winner walks away with the prize money of $12,000.

CMFI Macuata Regional Secretary Simione Gusuivalu says there will be some teams from Viti Levu taking part in the Tier 1 competition.

“Last year it was McDonald Saunaka. They are going to come this year to defend their title under a new name Westfield. There are other teams in the likes of Police, Hydro Naitasiri, Newborn Waibasaga, Cross of Victory, First Light Taveuni and we are expecting other teams like wardens and some other teams.”

The Tier 2 will have 40 teams participating with the main prize money of $4,000.

The Under 19 competition will have 16 teams vying for the main prize money of $1,000.

Eight teams will compete in the Women’s competition for the $1,000 prize money.

CMFI President Reverend Viliame Gauna says the tournament is a platform and opportunity for local players to showcase their talents, dreams and hopes in the sporting arena.
