Western Division reports damage

February 21, 2016 10:09 pm

The Western Division was one of the many placed around the country that was badly hit by TC Winston.

We now join our reporter Maggie Boyle reporting from Nadi.

“An update its day two here in the aftermath at TC Winston as the clean up continues on this end. We have been fortunate here in Nadi as we expected flooding last night – the rain eased up and the Nadi river kept did not overflow into the town however there were flooding in many other areas due to the rain throughout the day. Today there are hopes that we will be able to get a DISMAC team out to Rakiraki which has been closed out since TC Winston made landfall yesterday. Communications of course has been intermittent – you are able to get through sometimes only. The Commissioner Western has told us that they are trying to get a helicopter to be able to make an aerial assessment of Rakiraki town and drop of rations. We have more assessments coming through from Ba, Tavua, Lautoka and Nadi’.
