Tongan families in the country today celebrate the coronation of Tonga’s new king – King Tupou VI this morning.
Malia Avala says even though they are miles away from home, they did not want to miss this opportunity.
“We as the people of Tonga in Fiji, we decorate the place and we want to have fun just like the people in Tonga. We play the music, we do the lovo and we dance.”
Thousands of visitors witnessed the coronation of the king at the island nation’s capital Nukualofa.
A massive fireworks display is expected tonight in the Kingdom as part of the celebrations.
King Tupou VI is being crowned three years after King George Tupou V passed away.
Fiji’s President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and the first lady Adi Koila Nailatikau are also among the guests to be part of the celebrations in Tonga.
