Three under seasonal workers program sent home

Employment Minister, Jone Usamate has revealed to FBC News that three Fijians were sent home by Australian employers last week.

The three were part of the Seasonal Workers Program in Australia and are believed to have been allegedly involved in some unscrupulous behavior.

Usamate says he’s yet to receive more details about the three.

Meanwhile, he adds the Employment Ministry is looking at ways to increase the number of women employed under the Seasonal Workers Program in Australia as well as the Recognized Seasonal Employers Work Scheme in New Zealand.

“We want to see how we can explore and improve that and we also looking at our liaison officers have them on ground so that e can address that particular issue so I think we have positive with good system in place so we need to work on it to get the numbers up.”

Usamate has also confirmed only ten percent of women are employed under the two schemes and the need to increase this is paramount.
