Council Manager Finance Mohini Nair says the sundry deposits of the town council are made up of deposits paid by tenants and contractors to the council.

The Council was advised by the committee to write a letter to the Local Government Ministry for the write off of this amount.

The ministry informed the Committee that they have received the letter from the Sigatoka town council however will await discussions with the Office of the Auditor General.

The Auditor Generals’ office is expected to provide legal advice to the local government ministry since the amount is quite substantial.
