June 14, 2015 5:36 pm

The National Security Review Committee has taken some tips from New Zealand about its national security system.

Chair Esala Teleni says they met with officials from the NZ Prime Minister’s Office last week to better understand their national security system.

“I would say that we were grateful that we were given the opportunity for them to brief us on their system and also they highlighted the gaps they have – like we have and they are also working on improving and strengthening their system and likewise here in Fiji.”

Teleni says the committee is doing extensive consultations about the review.

The committee has held discussions with heads of government departments as part of the review process.

The report is expected to be submitted to Cabinet by August and the National Security Strategy Framework is expected to come into effect by the end of the year.
