The Fiji Police Force will be present at all evacuation centres to ensure safety.

Police Chief of Operations, Rusiate Tudravu, says this has been prompted by experiences from the past where some were abusing evacuation centres.

“Once people move to evacuation centre we will expect manning from the police officers just to see safety and security and also evacuation centres according to past experience have been used also for personal agendas. That is now an area of concern and that is where we will also be deploying as we have people moving into the evacuation centres.”

Police are currently working with relevant stake holders in identifying all active evacuation centres and deploying officers to these centres.
