The Nadi Weather Office has issued strong rain warning for the Fiji Group and believes this should give people time to prepare themselves.

Meteorology Director Alipate Waqaicelua says they cannot pin point the exact areas where flash flooding will occur but people should be prepared.

“At this stage there is a possibility of localized flooding in particularly the areas warned or alerted and that is particularly in the western division the Kadavu, Beqa, Vatulele and the nearby islands."

Waqaicelua says the alert is issued not to scare people but to warn them in advance.

“No one should be worried, worry can bring panic and people should be prepared. but it is very important that people are aware of what is happening before they move out and makes plans for the day and take necessary precautions to avoid any loss of lives and properties.”

A trough of low pressure is moving over the country and is expected to intensify and bring heavy rain.
