Twenty new lawyers who were admitted to the bar at the Suva High Court have been warned to respect all religions.
This comes after the recent discretion of temples and churches around the country.
Chief Justice, Anthony Gates says it’s disappointing to see that holy books and other items are being destroyed.
Gates says the recent sacrilege acts are hard to bear.
“You must demonstrate your tolerance and your respect for the religion of others; you should not be heard to vilify persons of a different race or religion to yourself. In Fiji religious festival bring us together. They are colorful friendly and inclusive. That is what we want for Fiji. It is a special quality and we must not sully it.”
He adds lawyers should recognize the rights of all Fijians as they have the right to worship freely without recrimination.
