The Fiji National University has witnessed an increase in females enrolling for engineering courses offered by them.

College of Engineering, Science and Technology Dean Salabogi Mavoa says the engineering courses were male dominated previously but this has changed over the years.

He says now around thirty to forty percent female students are studying engineering.

“In the class normally, the females are the top students in the class of engineering. Their hands on skills are very good, they are very careful in what they are doing with their design so we would like to encourage more female students to join us.”

Mavoa says female students have good knowledge in Mathematics, Physics and other science subjects, therefore making them the top students in engineering courses.

He says the government is also providing scholarships to females to take up these courses.
