The trial of a 28-year-old man of Nausori for allegedly raping his 14-year-old neighbor last year, started in the Suva High Court this morning.
The prosecution today opened the case saying that the victim who is now 15-years-old was allegedly raped and had to depend on people around her for protection.
The prosecution also said that there was a breach of trust as both the accused and the victim were neighbors.
The man is charged with one count of rape, one count of attempted rape and one count of indecent assault.
For the first count, it’s alleged that on 13th February the man raped the 15- year-old girl.
It’s also alleged that on 30th April last year, the man attempted to rape and indecently assault the girl.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and the trial continues before High court Judge Justice Vincent Perera.
