Lami Bridge undergoes maintenance

December 28, 2016 6:00 pm

Lami Bridge was reduced to one lane traffic yesterday due to corroded bolts and plates.

Fiji Roads Authority chief executive John Hutchinson says contractors had to conduct urgent repairs which meant access was restricted.

“As part of that inspection programme, we detected some corrosion and that corrosion was not serious but needs to be replaced. Corroded bolts and plates on the beams. We have decided to undertake preventative maintenance to stop the bridge deteriorating even further.”

Hutchinson says the Authority will also undertake similar inspections of all bridges around the country.

He adds these are only temporary closures when and where required, and FRA will close lanes on bridges to carry out this sort of maintenance work.
