Justice Madigan to preside over sedition cases

Suva High Court Judge Justice Paul Madigan will now preside over the sedition-related cases in the Lautoka High Court.

Justice Thusara Rajasinghe and Justice Aruna Alatughe who were presiding over the cases will no longer hear them.

Seventy-eight people have been charged with sedition-related offences.

Justice Rajasinghe announced the change in the presiding judges during the court appearance of sixty-two men and women of Ra today.

Of the sixty-two, 16 are charged with sedition and urging communal antagonism.

Justice Rajasinghe is expected to make a ruling on the bail application of the 16 Nadroga men and women charged with sedition and urging communal antagonism tomorrow morning.

The case of all 78 accused persons will also be called for mention before Justice Madigan tomorrow morning.
