Heavy rain warning cancelled

A heavy rain warning previously in force for southwest Viti Levu and nearby smaller islands, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands is now cancelled.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Gita was located about 515km southwest of Nadi at 9:00am.

The cyclone is moving west-westsouth at about 15km/hr further away from Fiji.

For southwest Viti Levu and nearby smaller islands, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands occasional showers are expected.

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.

Heavy rain warning cancelled

The heavy rain warning previously in force for Viti Levu, Kadavu, Yasawa and Mamanuca group is now cancelled.

A heavy rain alert remains in force for the whole of Fiji group.

A trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain remains slow moving over Fiji.

The trough is expected to gradually weaken and move south-westwards.

It is expected to affect the group until later today.

Occasional rain with isolated heavy falls and few thunderstorms. Rain easing to showers today.

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding.

Heavy rain warning cancelled

A heavy rain warning previously in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lomaiviti and Lau group is now cancelled.

Tropical Depression 04F was analyzed about 350km west-southwest of Nadi at 10pm last night.

TD 04F is moving southeast at about 12 km/hr and the centre will pass south of Fiji remaining far from land areas of Fiji.

An associated trough with heavy rain has moved to the east of Fiji.

For Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lomaiviti and Lau group: occasional rain and few squally thunderstorms.

Isolated heavy falls possible.

Heavy rain warning cancelled

A heavy rain warning previously in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Lau and the Lomaiviti group is now cancelled.

Fiji Meteorology Director, Ravin Kumar, says as the weather improved more alerts and warnings will be cancelled, but the public need to remain cautious.

“Weather is improving, let’s keep that in mind – we are now removing the heavy rain warning – so from time to time we will still see some localised heavy rain coming through because the trough is still hanging towards the East of us. So we will see further improvement in the weather later tonight and tomorrow.”

TD04F is moving further away from Fiji and its centre was located to the West of Nadi at midday.

However, cloud and rain bands continue to affects most parts of the country.

Heavy rain warning cancelled

The heavy rain warning issued by the Fiji Meteorology Services has been cancelled.

The Office had previously issued the warning for the Fiji group in light of the Tropical Depression 02F.

The Tropical Depression is moving Southwest at 19 km/hr, though the associated trough still lingers over Fiji.

Active rain bands have moved away from the group.

The heavy rain warning previously in force for Viti Levu, Lomaiviti group, Yasawa and Mamanuca group is now cancelled.

The cancellation was made at around 7.30 last night with the weather office saying a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain remains slow moving over Fiji.

The forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group is occasional rain over most places with isolated heavy falls expected.

Rain should start easing by tomorrow.

Heavy rain warning cancelled

The country can expect fine weather to prevail from tonight.

The Nadi Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has told FBC News this morning that the damaging heavy swell and rain warning have been cancelled for the Fiji group.

However, there’s occasional rain over the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and that will clear off later today.

The rest of the Fiji group can expect cloudy periods with brief showers.

Meanwhile, a strong wing warning over land areas is in force for Southern Lau and according to the Nadi Weather Office, this will ease off in the afternoon.

Heavy rain warning cancelled

The Nadi Weather Office has cancelled the heavy rain warning for the northern division that was issued this morning.

Senior weather forecaster Amit Singh says tropical disturbance 15F remains slow moving to the west of the country and an associated trough will continue to affect the country.

“But if you look at the next 24 hours we don’t expect any of the station to get more that 100mm of rain fall that is why we have cancelled the heavy rain warning for the northern division and for the western division it was cancelled in the morning.”

The rainy weather is expected to continue over the weekend.

The heavy rain warning for Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Lomaiviti and the Southern Lau group has been cancelled.

The Nadi weather office cancelled the warning at 9.30 last night, but a strong wind warning remains for Lau, Lomaiviti, Vanua Levu, and Taveuni and nearby smaller islands.

Rain is expected to start easing later today but you might want to keep that umbrella close because although not heavy, rain will continue into tomorrow.
